AGM: More than a Meeting
It was Monday, 3 February 2025. I was in the Lecture Theatre along with the rest of Singapore Polytechnic’s Christian Fellowship (CF) to witness this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). I had attended the AGM the previous year, but I was new then and did not have much of a vested interest in the outcome of the incoming committee. Back then, I did not think much of AGM – “It’s just a meeting”, “Every other CCA has it so I guess we have it too”, “I’m just here to witness my friend being officiated”.
This year, however, was different. After being a CF member for more than a year now, I have come to really care about CF as a community and wanted to see if it would be left in good hands. AGM serves to be an occasion where the CF can collectively recap the events of the past year, acknowledge its strengths and shortcomings, and frame the expectations for the incoming leaders.
AGM is also one of the few times where more members were likely to show up, perhaps because there is some stake that everyone has in being able to vote for the next committee members. It is also one of the few combined sessions we have with our Chinese CF members, but most significantly, it highlights the legacy of the CF.
Not only were some of the alumni members present but this year being also SP CF’s 66th AGM shows how long we as a CF have been around. It hands down its leadership from one batch to the next; even members from the other polytechnic CFs were there to witness it. The AGM is important because it serves to record the previous chapter in the CF’s story and begins the next.
For me, as a graduating member, it is a bittersweet farewell. Through CF, I have made many friends and grown closer to God. I have experienced what it’s like to be a fellowship of Christians, in both its highs and lows. I am grateful to have been a member of CF and its story.
