Facing the Next Phase
Each year, the Chinese Work ministry gathers fresh graduates of the polytechnic and university Chinese CFs to prepare them for the next season in their lives. This year’s programme for the fresh graduates was held on 16 May for polytechnic graduates and 20 to 23 May for university graduates.
Poly Fresh Graduates Day
I was really looking forward to the Fresh Graduates’ Day because it’s been so long since we’ve gathered together as a Chinese CF. As everyone gets busy with their own lives, we have fewer opportunities to meet, so I especially cherish the time when we can get together and reconnect.
One of our polytechnic alumni, Jia Jun, took time to be in our midst to share. His sharing, “Preparations for the Next Phase”, resonated deeply with my current stage of life. As I will be stepping into the workforce, facing a new environment, I feel a mix of anticipation and nervousness. I’m worried whether I can adapt to the demands and rigour of my work, and I am afraid of making the wrong choices. However, the sharing reminded me that I do not need to face the future alone but rather learn to trust in God and believe that He will guide me according to His plan.
The segment that left the deepest impression on me that day was the reflection time. In the past three years of studying in Singapore, I was constantly busy with various things and rarely stopped to reflect on my own experiences. During this session, everyone received a sheet of paper with reflection questions on it. One of the questions asked how we had spent our polytechnic life. Although the question was simple, I spent the longest time on it. I realised that I had been so busy completing one thing after another that I rarely stopped to look back, and as a result, some memories have gradually become blurred.
The reflection time gave me the opportunity to slow down and consider everything I have experienced in the past three years. In the process, I once again saw God’s presence and guidance throughout the journey and recalled His grace and faithfulness in my life. Although I will never forget what God has done, this intentional pit stop reminded me once again that God has always been moving in my life, and it has given me more confidence to welcome the next phase of life.

University Fresh Graduates Camp
Thank God that I was able to attend this year’s camp! Through the camp, I was prompted to begin my reflection on my role and place in the workplace before I officially enter the workforce. I was also able to gain a clearer understanding of God’s will for me in this new phase.
One of the sharings reminded me that regardless of our roles in the workforce, we are all priests. Like priests, we must not only understand and teach God’s word but live out holy lives. This is much easier said than done. The simulations done at camp exposed us to different workplace scenarios, where the choices we face are often not black-and-white. This made me realise that living a holy life in the workplace is not easy.
For devotions, we studied the book of Micah, which once again reminded us that no one is holy like God. Nonetheless, God calls us to look unto him, to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.” In reality, the world is full of evil and temptation. During the session on money, the speaker reminded us to establish the right view of money and to wisely manage all that God has entrusted to us; in the session on life philosophy, we were reminded not to imitate the ways of this world. These teachings are not easy to put into practice, so I pray that the Lord will grant me wisdom and strength, that I may walk in His paths of righteousness.
Lastly, I am also very grateful that this camp provided a good environment for me to think and reflect on my life. I am also glad that we could come together as brothers and sisters of the same cohort during the final stage of our university life to create and leave behind precious memories.
