Fifty-Five Years of Chinese Work
Chinese Work’s annual Big Family Gathering was held on 24 October this year. Held at Church of the Good Shepherd, the theme was “Keeping the Lord’s Way, Bonds Across Five Generations”, and it drew generations of students and alumni together. One graduate shares his reflection.
This year’s Big Family Day was very special.
Special Moment – because Chinese Work is 55 years old! Having journeyed through 55 years, we must count God’s blessings and offer our thanksgiving to Him. Over these years, God has preserved generation after generation of Christian students who have grown spiritually through the Christian Fellowships (CF), becoming light and salt on campus, influencing lives with their own, and bearing beautiful witness to the gospel. Furthermore, these brothers and sisters received holistic training and equipping in the CFs, enabling them to continue building the church after graduation.
Special Seriousness – We reflected deeply on the generations of students who have passed through our doors. Although from different eras and contexts, we undoubtedly share a common vision and an unwavering inheritance. The planning committee also seriously considered their experiences in CF at the first meeting, sharing what they gained during their school years. Later, we returned to the core DNA of Chinese Work – the six distinctives – and highlighted being evangelical. Our CFs have always held the Bible as the highest authority in our lives, reflecting how much each campus values Bible study and teaching within the fellowship. Thus, the theme “Keeping the Lord’s Way” arose.

Special Generations – Those who were present at the Big Family Gathering that evening will surely remember one of the videos shown. In the video, we heard alumni from different generations share their experiences, reflect on how God has kept them, and how their learning in the CF has influenced their ministry and lives after graduation. Although the brothers and sisters in the video were from a different cohort than me, I was able to resonate with their sharing, which was truly precious.
New Inductive Bible Study cards
Special Gift – Since biblical truth is so important to us, serious Bible study is essential. This year, after several rounds of work, the staff team launched the Inductive Bible Study cards, which reorganised the framework of inductive Bible study into a four-step approach to help us study the Bible more effectively. As we allow the Word to transform our lives, it will enable us to become more Christlike every day. I hope you have already opened the box, looked through its contents, and considered how you will use this gift.
Special Feeling – Perhaps you, like me, may not remember every single detail from the event, but you certainly remember the fellowship you shared with other brothers and sisters that evening. Although there were brothers and sisters from different generations present, we all experienced God’s grace and protection on campus. I hope that in the days to come, whether through prayer, giving, becoming a member of the Chinese Working Committee, or serving as a staff, we will continue to care for and support the ministry of the Chinese Work.
