Lost, Arriving, Adventuring
Overview
The 16th Youth Mission Conference (YMC) organised by Taiwan Campus Evangelical Fellowship (CEF) was held at Chung Yuan Christian University from 7 to 11 July 2025. Every morning and evening, the conference featured different speakers, who shared their experiences of being “Lost,” the challenges of “Arriving,” and finally going on to “Adventuring” with God. Besides plenaries, there were workshops on various topics, a special exhibition, an immersive experience, and an expo to learn about various missionary organisations. The campus bookstore also had a book stall offering books and souvenirs at discounted prices. Every day, there were also prayer sessions, where participants could choose to attend or spend time alone in prayer in the prayer room.

Immersive Experience
The segment that left the deepest impact on me at this YMC was the immersive play. We were transported back to the colonial era in Taiwan, experiencing firsthand the struggles and helplessness of the Taroko people during that period of oppression. While role-playing, we faced the difficult choice between faith and survival. We avoided direct confrontation but instead engaged in careful negotiation and responded with prudence and ultimately preserved the flame of our faith.
At that moment, I realised that under totalitarian oppression, true strength isn’t necessarily about direct opposition, but about perseverance and wisdom. Similarly, the world is changing rapidly today, and many Christians continue to face persecution and pressure. This immersive experience reminds us that refusing to give up our faith in the face of threat is itself the most powerful witness. I praise God for the thoughtful programme by the organisers, allowing the memory of history to speak into our hearts.

Expo
The Expo brought together a variety of missional organisations: seminaries, mission agencies, media companies, and other evangelistic organisations. Upon entering the Expo, I was surprised and somewhat overwhelmed. The staff at the booths warmly welcomed us and even offered to show us around the booths. They were filled with passion for their respective ministries, and the stories they shared were pervaded with love. Seeing this deeply encouraged me and showed me how God faithfully guided their footsteps. Interacting with these workers and missionaries first-hand was a tremendous blessing. I realised that if I am willing to take risks and fully surrender my life to God, He can bless others through my service, and I would also grow and benefit.

Visiting the CEF building
Through the various organisations, I discovered that there are many different ways to share the gospel. One that particularly impressed me was the Yadong Theatre Company. They use the passion and profession of drama to reach children and the elderly. Bilingual drama provides them with an opportunity to share the gospel in simple ways. As Paul said, “I have become all things to all men.” They use drama to build relationships, making the gospel more accessible and comfortable for non-believers. I was also deeply moved by their performance and witnessed how God used their gifts to evangelise and bless others.
In conclusion, the Expo at YMC widened my perspectives and, through the interactions with the staff, allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the practical realities behind the Great Commission.
