Self-Care at 4D Camp

This year, the 4D Youth Leadership Camp (YLC), co-organised by FES Chinese Work (CW) and the Chinese Work Committee of the National Council of Churches Singapore for Christians aged 17 years and above, was held from 14 to 16 December 2025 at the Catholic Spiritual Centre. Youths from different churches gathered around the theme of “We Watch + Channel,” which explored the pastoral environment that youth leaders face in their churches through the lens of the increasingly emphasised theme of self-care.

Heart-to-heart conversations (Cheristine is fourth from left)

I am truly grateful to God for the opportunity to attend this camp. Before arriving, I had been struggling to manage the constant busyness at school and church, eventually reaching a point where I was overwhelmed. I signed up without any expectations, but it turned out to be exactly what I needed. This year’s focus on self-care was incredibly timely, especially since we live in such a fast-paced society that we often neglect the need for rest. The three-day talk did more than identify the cause of feeling overwhelmed; it also provided practical lessons on how to manage our emotions and mental well-being in our lives.

Beyond the talks, we had the opportunity to visit the parish and learn more about the Catholic faith. Despite our different backgrounds, we found a deep sense of unity. The absolute highlight of the camp was our deep discussions. We stayed up engaging in conversation until 4 a.m., chatting about church practices and liturgy. It was heartwarming to see people from different denominations, ages and countries sitting together in such a respectful, joyful and united atmosphere.

Reflecting on serving in the church

These three days provided me with more than just a break; they gave me a lifelong lesson. This camp has become a pivotal experience, helping me finally move from being overworked to finding true rest in God.
