Witnessing in the Workplace

A Salt & Light (S&LT) Table Talk session was held at FES on 17 February. The session focused on workplace challenges, ethical conduct, and integrating Christian values into our professional lives.

We had discussions on critical issues like discrimination based on competence, workplace gossip, and the struggles of giving constructive criticism. We were split into three groups to explore how we each would overcome these challenges with empathy, patience, and constructive feedback. It was truly eye-opening to hear different perspectives and experiences from the group, especially the diverse ways in which people approach such sensitive topics.

One highlight for me was when our speaker, Soo Han, shared from Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven”, as well as Matthew 10:16, reminding us to lean on God’s Word during challenging times. These verses encouraged me to reflect on how, instead of looking outwardly for problems, sometimes it’s about doing the inner work within ourselves to be a significant influence at work.

It also emphasised the importance of self-awareness – ensuring that our actions genuinely reflect God’s love. I’ve come to realise that creating a positive work environment requires trust, mutual encouragement, and supportive leadership, with love as the foundation for how we give feedback to others.

In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed this table talk session. It gave me a fresh perspective on addressing common workplace struggles through Christian values of truth, grace, love, and excellence, ultimately helping to create a supportive environment where everyone can grow both personally and professionally.
