Where Campuses Gather to Pray
On 30 April 2019, over thirty students from different institutions in Singapore attended Upper Room at FES. Upper Room is a prayer meeting organised by the National Students Council (NSC) to bring students from different institutions together to learn more about one another’s ministries and to pray. Temasek Polytechnic opened the session with praise and worship, singing three songs: Mighty To Save, Through It All, and 我需要有祢在我生命中.
The time was then handed over to two mission trip teams to share about their short-term missions experiences. The MELT (Ministry Exposure Leadership Training) team, who went to Khon Kaen, Thailand, shared first. They comprised five Singapore Polytechnic students, two Ngee Ann Polytechnic students and two staff workers. The Polytechnic Chinese Work team, who went to Davao, Philippines shared next. There were three Singapore Polytechnic and five Temasek Polytechnic students along with two staff workers. Both team’s sharing was encouraging, and we prayed for the communities they engaged and the growth of the students who went on the trips.
Next, we prayed for four campuses – Singapore Polytechnic, NUS Indonesian Ministry, James Cook University and the NTU Chinese Ministry – after they shared about their ministry, including how they conducted fellowship in their schools, the struggles they face, and their aims for the year as a Christian fellowship.
Lastly, Joshua, the NSC chairperson, led the group to discuss the recent case of sexual misconduct in NUS which was brought to light in April. We divided ourselves into five groups to discuss and then each had a representative to pray for Institutions, Society, Christians, victims, and the perpetrators. The purpose of this discussion was to consider how the entire incident affected the people involved, how it affected Singaporeans, and how we as Christians should respond. This discussion provided different perspectives on both a current affair and campus affair and encouraged students to be more aware of it and concerned.
